Bio

Shawn Barger is currently the Lead Director of Part D Clinical Policy and Formulary Management at Aetna/CVS Health.  He is responsible for developing and managing all of the Medicare formularies, clinical policies, and his team of 8 employees.

Shawn was previously Director of Pharmacy at AvMed Health Plans for 15 years. He was responsible for managing the Pharmacy Benefit for 380,000 Commercial and Medicare Part D lives. He and his department staff performed the following Pharmacy Benefit Management functions: Formulary Management, Prior Authorizations, Medicare Part D Compliance, Medicare Part D STAR improvement, and Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee coordination. Shawn served as AvMed’s P&T Committee Chairman.

 

Prior to working at AvMed, Shawn was the Clinical Manager at Vista Health Plans in South Florida, a Managed Care Clinical Liaison for Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and a Pharmacy Manager at a Specialty Retail Pharmacy and a Long Term Care Pharmacy. Shawn has precepted many students from Nova Southeastern and University of Florida Colleges of Pharmacy, is a proud graduate of Purdue University College of Pharmacy, and trained as a Pharmacy Practice Resident at UF/Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.
